I know it is downhill, but that would put 60103 on the back for 50% of the journey, with the train being 'hauled' by the assisting locomotive.

I think I read that the KWVR is having to temporarily change its rule book to allow banking by the steam loco. Normally banking is only permitted by diesels.

Not sure that there can be a worthwhile saving on the turnaround, as there is a train in the other path, and unless it is also top-and-tailed (or if it's a DMU) then 60103 would have the same turnaround time available. Probably more, as it won't be stopping at intermediate stations.

Over the years I have seen many powerful locos struggling to get their relatively short trains out of Keighley, especially in wet weather. Locos with large wheels are the ones that struggle the most.

They did a trial run a few weeks ago, 5820 acting as 60103 and 90733 as banker

Thanks. I should have looked here: https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/gradient-profiles-of-heritage-railways.95457/

Off-topic, but I agree with you about the opportunity for a combined volume of heritage line gradient profiles and maps.

It's starting to look that way, though at least it will keep the numbers down lineside.

I doubt it, given that the times are freely available on the KWVR website.

Are you sure? I'm certain I've seen steam bankers on the KWVR.

Not 100% sure of the facts, but I read something in the RM about a temporary change to the rulebook to allow bankers for this event. 46236 says it's dictated by Damems loop.

It's a challenging standing start out of Keighley to go up the valley:-

They certainly have had trains top and tailed by steam engines, but the rear loco hasn't been doing any work.
