I knew that the issue of railway watches continued into the B.R. era but had assumed the practice had ceased. Not a bit of it! The railwayman I talked to this week confirmed he had a company issue timepiece although it seemed its accuracy was not outstanding.

So one ancient railway tradition has survived all the upheavals even if the operating companies do not aspire to the levels of the L.B.S.C.R. with its American Waltham movements in hallmarked silver cases. A golden age even if only silver was involved!
