MP presses train chiefs over cuts

Truro and St Austell MP Matthew Taylor is meeting First Great Western on Wednesday to protest against plans to cut train services in Cornwall.
The rail firm has been awarded the Greater Western Franchise and is to start running services from December.

Its plans include making cuts to services running on the Falmouth to Truro branch line, and services between Saltash and St Germans.

Mr Taylor said the cuts will be "devastating" for Cornish people.

First Group said it was still talking to the Department for Transport to finalise this December's timetable.

Rail cuts will jam the roads

Campaign to save the late train close to derailment

THE LAST night train to Newbury could be saved - but only if council taxpayers foot the bill.

First Great Western spokesman Adrian Booth said the 11.35pm late service - due to be axed in December - could be reinstated "if the local authority helps fund it".
