There is light at the end of the tunnel - 80136 has been steamed today a month after the boiler was lifted into the frames. Insurance test/exam tomorrow then some final reassembly jobs and hopefully we'll see it running-in soon. The cause of 44806's hot tender axlebox seems to have been diagnosed as well, so that should be running-in again soon as well. No word on 61264 but I wouldn't be surprised to see it out in the near future as well.

3 out of 4 of the steam workings will be steam tomorrow (44806, 76079 and 45428)! 80136 has also past it's steam test today, so it shouldn't be long now, hopefully the B1 will make a come back shortly too.

B1 is on steam test today; 44806 still having tender axlebox problems but they are being worked on again - the Grosmont wheel drop is definitely proving its worth!

The B1 has hauled its first solo train today and is now back in traffic I believe, as is 44806. Just 80136 to go - it has a leaking dome joint but has done a running-in turn to Goathland, so will probably be completing running-in trips within a few days.

Unfortunately today's operations didn't go as smoothly, D7628 was on G2 as 76079 is on washout, and 44806 failed mid-afternoon. 63395 will definitely be needed, and hopefully 80136 and 6046 will be in operation.

Six locos due to be in steam today - 61264, 63395 45428 and 76079 running trains and 80136 and 6046, undergoing steam tests. Just 44806 not working (probably on washout and/or maintenance).

More good news. 61264 passed its VAB acceptance exam yesterday and should be available for EVL working shortly, once the paperwork is all in place.

Can I ask how far from completion is the overhaul of 34101 please? Was this another almost complete firebox rebuild?

    Thanks

Boiler has gone to South Devon for the firebox work. Depends on when it is returned. It will still need all the other jobs (tubes, stays, etc) when it comes back.

I don't think anyone knows if we'll see 62005 in the early part of the season, or 65894 towards the end. There are hopes of seeing 45428 back late season, and 45212/45407 are currently available till they move to Fort William. 30926 was supposed to be available ca. end of April but that's looking increasingly unlikely - I think that start of the main season is more likely but they are short of Whitby engines as things stand so will be looking to get it back asap for that reason. Haven't heard of any plans to hire anything in this year.
