4 new pictures inside roof added to website:

    http://www.thetrainofthought.co.uk/

There will no amendment to working instructions and no ban on double heading because of the roof. The W & P 175 Gala plan includes doubleheading.

Still waiting an answer on cleaning!

This is the last week that you can sponsor slates and actually have your name on them. After this week, you can still sponsor but the slates will already be up! I believe there will be a plan showing who has sponsored which slate, and you will still be shown on that. Details here: http://www.thetrainofthought.co.uk/donate/. I would suggest the bank transfer method and fax a copy of the form or PM me the details it requests and i will send on to the Lottery team.

The roof is fitted with internal and external water supplies for cleaning, and safe access and harness points for working on the exterior. A Cherry picker or similar will be needed for internal cleaning. The frequency is yet to be finalised - it will, I suppose, depend at least in part on experience, but is currently expected to be once a year. Such running costs are aprt of the Lottery Project and hence Grant assisted until late 2013.

Looks mightily impressive - i imagine it'll prove very attractive to film and tv producers as well if the NYMR make them aware of it.

Beat me to it! Notice cancelling special operating arrangements cancelled 17:43 this pm - operations now normal.

Lots still to do, including stonework repairs previously inaccessible due to the scaffolding (which you can see in Tall Paul's video)

Note also the "official photographer" (the GM) in attendance and the Ops Manager on the footplate with the Gala Organisor driving.

The gantry hasn't yet arrived at Grosmont but I believe steps are in progress to speed up its installation.

wont that be needed for making Whitby runs easier to signal to depart and have trains passing in the station? Just thinking that otherwise there will be a lot of radio talk when the signals could do it, or worse still, will it stop Whitby trains running and passing at Grosmont as I did hear a while ago that NR wanted signalling at the north end of the station to protect movements, by holding trains in the station and then letting them across the line and onto the Whitby line with the signal showing the aspect.

    http://www.nymr.co.uk/2011/05/emergency ... -15th-may/

Network Rail have advised us of the need to carry out emergency engineering work between Grosmont and Whitby, NYMR train services between Grosmont and Whitby will have to be replaced by a bus service on the above dates only. We expect to run a normal service to Whitby from Saturday 14th May. All our normal services between Pickering and Grosmont are unaffected.

All buses will connect with NYMR train services at Grosmont.

The NYMR and Network Rail wishes to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused to our passengers.

Doesnt look like Northern Rail trains are suspended... as National Rail Enquiries havent put up service details being affected. That might change in the morning, but it cant be too bad if services will resume on Saturday.

I gather it is a weight restriction problem on a bridge. Sprinters and the like are being permitted across but 120 ton steam locos aren't.

I am pleased to announce that repairs have been completed on the Esk Valley branch and NYMR Services will return to normal tomorrow.

80072 looks likely to be in traffic this weekend - I will se if I can discover which trains it will be operting but probably be working off Pickering.

The latest I hear on 80072 was that it was due washout but may need to be kept in traffic over the weekend to cover for other locos.

    A couple of updates.

Unfortunately, the casting defect that has been present in the right hand cylinder of 76079 probably since manufacturer has finally worsened to the point where the locomotive can no longer be used. This is quite a blow to the Esk Valley Fleet. Although the replacement cylinder has been fabricated, tocomotive is receive due to receive an intermediate boiler overhaul.

To provide a further locomotive over the peak summer period, Standard Class 4 80072 has returned from Llangollen - many thanks to the owner and Llangollen for this being able to be arranged so rapidly. The loco is in traffic today.

The Esk Valley fleet is current 45407 and 45428. Physical work is now complete on 44767 to enable it to be registered for use on the branch. A test run to Battersby is being schduled and paperwork is to be completed but it is hoped the loco will be available to work into Whitby during July. At the end of July, 61994 is expected to arrive and work continues on 75029, although the need to undertake repairs on operational locos has delayed the work on this loco.

The owners are progressing well with replacement of the driving wheel tyres on 92214 with a view to a return to traffic ahead of the main season starting next month. Repairs on 63395 and 49395 are also understood to be nearing completion.

    Steven
