The Midland-designed 2-8-0 will be making its second visit to the ‘Poppy Line’ at the three-day event, having first made an appearance on the NNR at the railway’s ‘Autumn Steam Gala’ last year.

No. 53809 will remain at the railway for a further two weeks to star at the NNR’s ‘1940s Weekend’ on September 16/17.

It will be the second 2-8-0 at the gala, as the NNR has secured the services of Keighley & Worth Valley Railway-based WD No. 90733 – continuing the heavy freight theme of the event.

The ‘Dub Dee’ will line up alongside the railway’s own WD 2-10-0 No. 90775. The locomotive is making its first public gala appearance since the completion of its recent overhaul. The pairing of Nos. 90733 and 90775 will be the first time two ‘Dub Dees’ have worked together since the 1960s.
