what's sad about it is the wealth of info on Railway subjects people are missing out on by not joining such groups. I can't fathom it. I'm a member of dozens of groups and it's amazing what pops up.

It costs nothing to join and if you don't want to divulge any info about yourself, you don't have to, in fact you could open an account in a fictious name and noone would know it was you

Apart from the fact that facebook use tracking cookies to read what other websites you visit. Had an account I never used in a fake name plus all other details were fake apart from an email. Used to get friend suggestions of people I knew. Scary. Facebook is not private, at all. Will never use it again.

That's grand, not a problem, but why do people always come on saying we can't access that link because we aren't members? If someone doesn't want to be a member, that's fine, you'll miss out but that's your choice. It's like complaining you can't drive when you haven't applied for a license.

But surely the onus ought to be on the group who wants to get maximum publicity for what they're doing? Especially when it's quite simple to at least have a Facebook page set to public rather than private, I think it's reasonable to complain a little when that's not the case.

I think the object of the exercise isn't that. It's for like minded people to interact socially. 7

You don't want to join but you want to see what's going on?

If you an see what's going on, you might join. If you can't then you'd possibly not bother?

So does Google and most other websites. Have you stopped using them too?

But complaining on here isn't going to achieve much, is it? Would be better to contact the group directly.

the Group's management have decided they don't want you to do that, they only want people they have vetted to have access to their content.

There are publicly accessible views of the move on the RPSI facebook site. And yes it is excellent news.

I have applied to become a member of that group but nothing yet. as for other groups on Face book where to start? I have three or four groups which I own and mod, plus all the others groups I am a member of. As for this one with the Irish content I was not aware of until you posted the details of Meenglass, I am glad to know something is happening to her after all this time.

If ever there was a need for a new heritage line that went from point A to point B and was not just a tourist operation the new CDR could well be it after Brexit. Modern Air con Railcar's and some sort of container working would be a great incentive, mind you if it got that far I guess the powers that be would insist it being 5ft 3ins gauge

in response to richards; yes however I minimise the use of them with privacy settings as high as possible. I have known people in my profession that have had careers ended because of posts on the internet never mind faceache that they never expected to be traceable.

But we're not taking about *posting* on Facebook. Just reading posts by other people or organisations.

yep, I can't see where the harm could possibly be in browsing fb only. Just you can't see some stuff that the posters have chosen to limit access to.
