My take on yesterday's action featuring a few low light shots, with the highlight through Oxenholme. Missed a shot on Shap due to Sat Nav sending me through 4 miles of farmland road :( Can anyone identify the crackling of the exhaust ? Is it misfiring ? Although the 37 sounded vocal, it didn't seem to be pushing to much as speed on approach to Shap (southbound) was not high.

Many thanks for your positive feedback. As for the usual detractors spinning the same broken record - I found the 'Ignore' button has made the viewing of this forum a far more pleasurable experience!

Thanks to all those who got out there to give us the brilliant selection of stills and videos.

Indeed. A great day for the photographers with some excellent outcomes from them. Always a pleasure to see.

OK everyone - well not everyone actually, just the usual suspects. Time to move on. The train has run. I don't see anyone who travelled saying that it was a rubbish day with nothing positive about it and they will never do it again. The trip generated some great images and thanks to those who bothered.

It's only the start of the 2017 season and there's another trip coming up soon, possibly, so please pace your anger a bit as there is more to come!

A number of posts have now been moved away so that this thread can focus on images and comments about Leander's performance.

The "crackling" to which you refer is caused by the interaction of the exhaust with the OHLE.

I imagine the reply will also be of four words, probably won't bother again!

I don't want to enter the debate that's been ongoing here for the last couple of days, but thought I'd upload the attached photo of the Jube climbing Shap at Salterwath. I think it shows what little, if any, assistance was being given by the 37 during what was probably the most challenging gradient of the trip. The quality isn't great, as it was taken with a long lens from Shap Wells and has been quite heavily cropped. Thanks to everyone else who has posted photo's and vids and I hope anyone who was on the tour who happens to read this, had a great time on the day.

The crackling sound is present on two different microphones, especially at Oxenholme. I think it's the OHLE, which Spamcan81 stated.

Thank you everyone for the photos and videos. Myself and a friend enjoyed the day out and were looked after by the Train Manager and Stewards. Upgrades to warmer seating, free hot drink first and numerous updates on what was happening

"Enjoying"??? I don't believe you. According to others, you should all have been leaving the train, demanding compensation and ringing your lawyers. ;)

You might not want to enter the debate but you just have. Nothing can be determined from the volume of steam and smoke being exhausted by Leander but a Jubilee would not have got along as well as the videos (thank you everyone) show with 11 and a 37 on without a significant power input from the 37.
