So for a steam purist, I guess you don't think it will be worth the 3 hour+ drive to get to this one then???

You could expect the worst and then be pleasantly surprised but I would not be willing to put much of a wager on solo steam.
There are those that occasionally post on NP who will know the odds exactly so perhaps somebody from RTC or indeed the TOC might be helpful enough to provide some facts that put folk out of their misery / entice more customers :-o

The positives going in it's favour would be the East Yorkshireman & The Rivers Trust. Both tours went unaided when everyone expected a diesel. Anymore than load 11 and forget it !

That is true but on the whole only Riley locos seem to generate sufficient confidence to go solo, especially when paired. Plus the time of year may necessitate ETH as the most effective means of keeping folk warm?
As I said there are loads of sensible reasons to have the diesel and it would be better for customers to know this rather than it be a potentially disappointing surprise.

Yes it reads poorly I grant you!
I meant solo as in without diesel assistance. More often than not Riley 5s run unencumbered.

I have heard rumours that 45960 will be replaced by a diesel class 47 for the whole duration of the trip now. Please can anyone confirm if this is true or not? Thank you.

Alright then, I heard the rumour from another rail enthusiast website that I'm a member of. But I'm not stating which website it is.

Well it turns out the rumour was just platform end wibble and that the tour will be steam hauled as advertised after all. Sorry about that.
