Latest times for S&C ‘Plandampf’

Tickets are now available for the first timetabled steam-hauled trains over the Settle & Carlisle line for nearly 50 years.

Passengers will be able to ride on two regular services per day on February 14-16, hauled by new-build ‘A1’ No. 60163 Tornado. Four carriages in the seven-coach train are for pre-booked tickets only; the remaining three will be open for pay-on-the-day fares.

The timetable for each day of Tornado services is as follows:

Paul Barnfield, Regional Director at Northern, one of the partners that have made these services possible, says: “Demand for tickets will be extremely high and whilst there will be three unreserved carriages on each journey, I would strongly advise anyone who wants to travel to pre-book and reserve a seat.

“There will be seven carriages in total for each journey and standing will not be permitted – so spaces will be limited and we really don’t want anyone to be disappointed.”

That Tornado will be hauling the first timetabled main line passenger trains for nearly five decades is the result of an alliance between Steam Railway and sister publication RAIL, Northern, Network Rail, DB Cargo, Friends of the S&C and the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust.

The trains, running under the banner of ‘I LOVE S&C’, have been organised to revive the fortunes of the beleaguered S&C, severed by a landslip last February, as well as the communities the route serves.
