    The SLS are pleased to report that our historic LNWR locomotive Orion, the only surviving operational Crewe built Webb Compound, will be in steam this weekend at Locomotion, Shildon.

    Steaming dates for 2013

    3/4 Aug Model Mania event - Locomotion, Shildon
    21/22 Sep Steam Gala - Locomotion, Shildon

    Latest information on the engine.

    After the boiler certificate expired in 2011 the engine was displayed on the Society’s stand at the Warley MRC exhibition at the NEC and then (just like a standard gauge engine) was given a thorough 10 year overhaul. Orion returned to steam during 2012 better than ever as operational experience gained with valve timings etc., was applied. Orion is normally displayed at Locomotion, Shildon, and steamed during gala events.

    Subject to any last minute glitches Orion should be in steam again this weekend (6/7 Aug) at Locomotion Shildon and for the steam gala next month.

    Interested individuals always wanted to be part of the Orion support team at Shildon for these events.
    (NB need to be Society members for driving purposes). Even if you aren't interested in the rest of the Society affairs £10 first year membership, then £25, a far better deal than buying your own locomotive!

    Steam gala at NRM Shildon this coming weekend. The plan is to have Orion in steam and running on both days.
