Theres another thread where someone(Polish Steam ?) has tried to track them all down, and given the use of at least one for spares the estimate is between 6 and 7 ?
Never heard them called brilliant before, but they are potentially very useful. a WINBy moment - would love to see one on the Winter Jacobites ( if that takes off)...

They've always been brilliant in my books, mega loud & seem to be pretty powerful locos, not as many as I first thought over here but still a good fair few. There's quite a few foreign locos knocking about on various preserved lines:

    S160 - Numerous, churnet valley x2 keighley x1 etc.
Kent & east sussex have a norwegian loco

    Nene valley have:

Polish 0-8-0 tank - Last I knew was at the flour mill workshops having an overhaul.
Danish class F - Under the wing of the nvr small loco group & I believe will return to action
Swedish B class 4-6-0 number 101. Last phots of it working were 15 years ago back in 2002, don't recall it having worked since, currently on display (presume stored/static only) in wansford yard.

5820 does run again now but seems to be potluck when it gets running days, keep missing it myself. I know it had a few teething problems when it returned but has apparently settled in nicely now.

Anybody know how 71000 duke of gloucester is coming along at tyseley???

Word from.the new owning group was they planned to re-engineer some components. Probably the valve gear as I know that caused some issues, gorgeous machine & the american chime whistle it had sounded fab, big bugger too for a 4-6-2 From platform height it's tall & from ground level it looks massive!!

I believe the owner of the 2 CVR s160's was considering certification for one or both of his machines, so not entirely out of the question! Winter Jacobite is back for an extended season this year, although I suspect the Riley black fives will be most likely motive power.

Boiler is off and being seen too at the moment. All currently running to plan, ready for a return Dec 2018. They have a Facebook page you can follow, the changes have been discussed on there.

6046 is still planned to go mainline one day. Just at the moment other things keep getting in Greg's way.

Thanks for the link. Just looked at the website and the owning group hopes to complete the loco and have it ready for hire by the end of the year. This has been one of the less publicised restorations which has quietly got on with the job. It's good that they are nearly there! I hope there will be some railway out there that will show interest. Some of the more obvious candidates (i.e., longer ex-GWR lines) either have a Hall or Modified Hall or else aren't likely to want to hire in an engine long-term and, of course, some non-GWR lines may be deterred by the usual issues of gauging. Still, one hopes that this still leaves a good few lines which don't fall into either category and that someone out there somewhere will snap up 6989. Having lived in Gloucestershire for three years and thus having become familiar with 7903 at Toddington, I've come to appreciate these locos. Like a Black Five, they are very capable - and also pretty loud!

Pure silliness but I'd like to see it at the GCR to go with 6990, when 78019 is also up and running again and paired with 78018, so that we can have a "consecutive numbers gala".
