I have what looks like a heat haze on my Bittern shot!

Discussion in 'Photography' started by fireboxchaser, Mar 30, 2009.

    Hi all

I have a shot of Bittern that I have been trying unsuccessfully sort out from the weekend.

I was zoomed right out to get her rounding the curve and approaching Doniford, but it looks like a shimmering heat haze, although it wasn't!

Any ideas from them that know, of how this might have happenend and what if anything I can do with it to improve the situation. It looks the same on the camcorder!

I find that any long zoom shot gets a bit hazy particularly if you are on digital zoom. Look at any of my videos, particularly the earlier ones where I tended to zoom to the max, and you will see what I mean. Now I try to stay out of the digital zoom sector and you do get clearer shots.
When in South America however I did notice that long zooms were clear, atmospheric pollution in this country I guess.

Well I think it is just atmospheric haze, when you pull back, the loco gets clearer but the hills in the distance remain hazy.

With my Camcorder you can recalibrate them and reset the settings as after time they tend to do their own thing. I have a JVC Camcorder and it states this in the manual.... Just a thought?

  8. I'll take a look at that before the weekend! Ta.

i found it easier to download via this link as the link for whatever you sent me wasn't very helpful. http://www.sony.co.uk/product/sdh-hard- ... ype=manual
I will have a look through the manual and see what I can find out and any points that might be worth trying....

    Cheers

A question how are you taking the movies? What format 16:9 or 4:3? I'm thinking if you use Wide Select it might not be hazy as such.... Unfortunately you're Cancorder soesn't appear to have an option that mine has to recalibrate it - This is the link to mine if you download the manual for GZ MG21EK which is about a third down the page. Hopefully you may see where I am coming from. But have a look at the settings above and if you can come back to me - We can try and take it from there as I have downloaded the manual for your's and saved it....

Sorry I forgot to send you the link for the manual for my Camcorder... http://www.jvc.co.uk/download.php?type=2

It might give you an idea to what I meant....

    Cheers

  16. I actually shot those in 16:9, but converted them in Pinnacle to 4:3.

There is a reset option. I presume that this will take all camcorder settings back to factory install. Is that what you meant by recalibrating? If so thats no problem.

As I said my Camcorder allows me to reset the camcorder up/ has a calibration mode - Without doing a full reset.

I have gone through the manual for your's with a fine tooth comb and I can't see anything like mine except a full reset. It can't do any harm can it in doing a full reset? That way you just need to reset it up again to get the quality that you want...

    Cheers
