The loco should be in good hands with the SLG who have two guys learning boiler skills at NYMR and NNR via the BESTT apprenticeship scheme, not to mention the skills inherent at NVR with their engineers and the 92 Squadron guys. As usual it will be funding that will be the issue.

Comments on Newstead's Facebook page say it was overhauled and then steamed just twice. Photos on the same page show the paintwork was in good condition underneath thick layers of dust, now cleaned off. Definitely a sleeping beauty.

Aye. A shame as Ring Haw showed it was a very useful low season loco and Newstead would have filled that role nicely. But if nobody has the resources to get her running, it's just taking up space.

interesting if oddly written piece. I hope it finds a home somewhere that will appreciate it.

The Small Loco Group website appears to be dead; but whilst having my lunch at Wansford I saw activity on the loco, with much occurring upon the tank on it. Looks like progress on this charming little engine :)

The SLG are definitely not dead, even if the website is! Progress is being made on their other locos. I believe the work on Newstead may be in preparation for a move to a new home (under negotiation, so not yet revealed where).

Yep, this much I gleaned in conversation on Friday.

Pity about the website as I really do not like Facebook... but I am looking forward to the return of 'Tinkerbell' and hopefully, Derek Crouch?

Fairly sure I saw Newstead on the a14 eastbound just now. I take it she is off to pastures new?

Well, she was sitting on the turntable at the NVR yesterday. Plastic bag over the chimney, tank looking as though it was very recently painted?

Is the shed it was in moveable and possibly available to keep it in?
