French steam 1972 Cherbourg

    On the way to a family holiday in the summer of 1972 I recall a line of steam locomotives alongside the road in Cherbourg. Did my eyes deceive me?

    I have found photos on the net (www.flickr.com/photos/49572843@N00/3465673924) of a 141R at Cherbourg in 1972 and a line of 140Cs stored in the summer of 1970.

    Can anyone tell me whether SNCF steam still hung on in the Cherbourg area in the summer of 1972?

    I should have said both the photos were from 1970 so come on those of you with memories of 1972!!
