Got an extra month out of them last time it happened but, I am actively considering alternatives this time - doubt very much whether I will renew when my subscription is due in November. Good job the last year was only half-price.

This Pikfu thing sounds interesting and would be tempting if stuff can be migrated over from Fotopic (assuming it comes back!) however, if it is being set up by the same person who started Fotopic, what are the chances of it also being sold on to somebody who does not appear to care about the business or it's customers?

For the moment I will sit on the fence but, if Fotopic does not return in the next few days, then I will have to decide and it doesn't look like Pikfu will be ready in time and the main attraction of being able to transfer stuff over will be lost if Fotopic does not return.

The rumours of liquidations are back on another forum. Apparently the company is showing as been in Liquidation.

The problem is showing all the symptom's you'd expect if Snappy Designs (the owner) only have one cable going to their server facility and someone put a pneumatic drill through it. Proper businesses have multiple redundant cables taking different routes to their office but perhaps fotopic don't.

Well been a worldwide company you would expect it to be a big place on an industrial estate. In actual fact its one or a number of rooms in a back street office building in a Wakefield housing estate!

As far as I understand, it is based the other side of the Pennines these days, and the Wakefield office is long-gone. I spoke to the previous owner earlier, but he is non the wiser, but has no connection with the operation these days.

    Cheers,
    Alisdair

I just hope that if Fotopic have gone belly-up that I can at least get all of my photos back and get some kind of compensation. As I too get many hits; since i started taking photography very seriously. Apologies I forgot to say that I too have gone over to Premium membership.

34007, I would hope that you have your own copies of your photos. All of mine (several thousand of them, original files with "web sized" copies, same with scans of negatives) are on two separate hard drives; the only PITA will be having to upload everything again if or, more likely, when it comes to that.

For me its not the photos that are lost. Its the thousands of captions that I am missing!!

Spent around a grand on the site in the last 5 years.

Blame it all on me for bringing them crashing down !!!!- I asked them for payment for all the pictures they printed of mine on the 22/02/2011 - Was to be donated to the local childrens hospice when I go over next week but still havnt been paid

"Thankyou for your payment request, dated 22 February 2011.

You have £35.90 available for payment, which will be included in the next payment run.

We will pay you by bank transfer to ******, subject to correct details being supplied."

Ive suspected something going amiss when people reported that they couldnt order prints, queries not being answered and searches not working

Lucky for me I decided to back up all my collections back to my computer as zip files just last week but as said above, the captions are going to be the problem with I reckon nearly 3000 photos uploaded myself.

Now looking for other options for a gallery - looking at creating one using "Moonfruit" but it could be expensive

    John

I think I shall wait to see what this "Pikfu" offers, then I will make a decision as to whether to create one or use Pikfu.

If you're looking for an alternative to FotoPic I've always been impressed with SmugMug.

Although I'm very happy with Coppermine.

    Hi andy,

The last time I looked on your photopic site some months ago it was no longer available to view. I remember you posting a link on a thread regarding your Fuji camera.

I posted a letter to their address this evening. IF I receive a response - e-mail, mobile and postal address have been provided then I will post it on here. However I have a nasty feeling about this one.

If anybody has any other information about ownership then please post it here...

    Hi Lee,

It was probably because Fotopic was down then.. I last checked it yesterday and it was working fine. So have the company gone into Liquidation or complete meltdown? Or is it just general maintenance?

It's funny how Snappy Designs (Alas Fotopic - Who only take over the servers and Domain) manage to lose out from this. Quote; "Fotopic accepts a million photos a month for publication, has 10 million photos live in the system. 2,500 new users every week join Fotopic, making it one of the largest UK-based gallery sites."

No knowing much about this type of site, is/was there anything special about Fotopic? I've not used it, but do have accounts with both Photobox and Photobucket.
