Change of route ! This has just been slipped on unnoticed, by RTC. Now York - Scarborough according to timings, no Wolds route to Beverley and Brid, great haulage with 5690 ok but gutted at route change, done this route many times and would not have even considered it otherwise, note to self, do not book, until route confirmed...

Route was also changed last year, but not in 2015. I believe there was a post giving the reason last year.

Is this the post, from John Shuttleworth, that you were thinking about??

"The Brid line has been lost due to Route Availability - it is RA6 and 'Leander' is RA7. Dispensation can be granted by the relevant structures engineers (as last year) but on this occasion they have declined."

I think you mean James Shuttleworth. John Shuttleworth was a photographer who sadly is no longer with us.

Is that RA rating "Historic" or New?
A lot of the Hull - Seamer line was relaid in the early - mid 2000's with new rail and sleepers etc.
Engineering trains were in use with C66s normally and accessed the line from both ends.
The only limitation placed on us as contractors was the length of the trains due to signal limits at Hull Anlaby Rd curve.

So, my question is now, why have RTC marketed this route, knowing full well there is a highly likely chance that this would NOT run the advertised route if an RA7 loco was rostered, I fully accept WCR's position here, to my mind, down to the promoter 100%. Was there no chance of using the 8f ? Spoken to RTC as RTT showing departure time now as Man.Vic. dep 06.50, the first train in from my end is 07.17 so its now completely OOTQ, they say they are yet to receive the official timings so cannot make a decision until then, watch this space...

A bit like the Whitby Flyer this year it's a good route for March/April or October when you can get a B1 or a Black 5. At the moment, Carnforth just doesn't have the loco to do it in June. One of 45305, 44932 or 45231 would need to be available.

Maybe. But would a 50mph loco be good enough on the Hope Valley?

Maybe the Jube to Doncaster and the 8F from Doncaster round the coast and back to Milford. But that costs extra money.

I've been round there behind 44932 five years or so ago, superb climb from Hunmanby up to Bempton.

A black 5 has been transferred from FW and back for a train in the South West England in the recent past so it is a question of determination to provide what is sold.

I believe the Black 5 was moved south from Fort William to enable the tour to be steam hauled as there was nothing else available. Rather a different scenario.

Not entirely different as there is nothing else available to do the tour as advertised. My point was, where there is a will etc
