Just a reminder for anyone driving/chasing down to Weymouth for this week's DCE it is carnival. Extra traffic and other knock on's in the area.

Will it still return to Waterloo or be diverted into Victoria after this mornings mishap? I was surprised NR were letting it in at the moment anyway.

A very good question, I guess we'll find out tonight. I was pondering a trip up to Waterloo this evening to find out. RTT still has it pathed to Waterloo.

It was 4 down at Feltham, held leaving the Hounslow triangle to allow a Windsor (I think) and an ECS. It sounded like it was doing some work, rather than coasting along behind a stopper as is often the case. WC Class 37 on the back, which sounded like it was just ticking over.

I suspect that those who were on this train beyond Woking were unimpressed with the delays on the Staines circuit and then arriving at Waterloo two and a quarter hours later without even the opportunity to bail out at Clapham.

I saw the timings on RTT late last night - any ideas what caused the delays?

According to SWT website last night trespasser in the Virginia Water area led to power being switched off. Guess DCE got stuck behind non moving 450's.
Hope it was not caused by some idiot waiting to photograph USA

This 'trespass' thing is getting a bit too regular and we only talk here about the instances that affect main line steam. At one extreme there is the drunk who misses their train and decides to walk home along the track as that's the most direct route. But at the other there is the person who may indeed be technically in the wrong place and may be in the right place a few minutes later. What happens is that they are spotted, reported and then everything stops while someone finds out where they are. Meanwhile, hundreds, sometimes thousands of people are affected.

Is it exactly like this everywhere else in the western world with a sophisticated railway system? This incident may have been the life threatening moment that was rescued....or it might not.

Yes there was an incident between Streatham and Clapham Junction Friday about 1600. Southern services still screwed at 2130 and not just on that route of course.

Was there a problem taking water at Winchfield this morning? The train left there late and was delayed further at Basingstoke. Did 60009 take on more water at Basingstoke? It was going well past Pirbright earlier.

The reason was an Emergency Speed Restriction, relating to an underbridge at Wool stn.
