CORUS, the Anglo-Dutch steel maker, has signed a seven-year, multi-million pound contract to supply Network Rail with rails.

The contract is valued at between £40 million and £50 million in the first year.

Corus is currently working to complete a new £130 million investment programme at its Sc unthorpe steelworks in the second half of 2006.

This will enable the company to produce rail of up to 120 metres long in the UK
Until then Network Rail will be supplied with rail from its existing rail plant at Workington.
