Should not exceed an average of 48 hours per week over a 17 week period. You can sign an opt out if you wish.

And there is the elephant in the room. A business model where companies operate for profit by either selling the tours, hiring the locomotives and rolling stock, have paid staff to operate machinery, serve food etc whilst relying on volunteers to work excessive hours. Amazed that the regulators have not stepped in and ensured paid staff are involved on proper shifts. Now that would impact on the business model.

When I worked although I was never in a safety critical role the moment I heard "Working Time Directive" and "EU" in the same sentence I could not opt out quick enough. No way would I have some faceless EU bureaucrat telling me what I could or could not do.

That comment will surely result in some scathing comments aimed at you.

I guess most of you will not have had the "pleasure" of being part of European working groups in Brussels. I did for some years when I worked in aviation, what a waste of time.
I could attend a meeting in Washington where actions would get achieved and some of the same Europeans would attend, except once the got back in a Brussels scenario they all seemed incapable of making any decisions or having any direction.
I am afraid it is first hand experience that has jaundiced my view of European bureaucracy.
