Excellent footage. 'Shoveage' obviously necessary with 12. Glad we gave it a miss.

    It's a class 7+ job unassisted, not a long legged 5.

Looks like a sterling effort from Galatea and her crews, particularly on Shap. A super video Steve, lots of Jubilee roar and some terrific evening light at Birkett Common. Many thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

    Alan

I thought the ORR had put a limit of 11 coaches on all steam specials. Have I got that wrong or was it just for class 5s?
Or has the limit been removed? 45699 doesn't seem to be having any problems with 12+a 47.

It was stated in Down Main in SR, that the limit of 11 only applied to West Coast and was temporary , until agreed maximum loads per route per loco had been agreed.

Is it my imagination or was that 47 as dead as a dodo at Shap summit?

Looks very like it, no sign of any amount of exhaust and could not hear anything either, mind you there was a lot of noise from up front.

The engine of the 47 would have been running, so that the aux alternator would supply a compressor with electricity, for the compressor to provide main reservoir for the 47s air brakes to work in proportion to the train vacuum brake.
A 47 powering just enough to carry its own weigh would not make much noise & smoke....
    I bet I'll wish I hadn't posted the above!

Another sterling performance by Galatea and crew. 2015 a great year for her. Let 2016 be even more great.
