    Hi Jon

Do you know if services will be running on 1st March? I'm at a wedding in Endon the previous day, so will be in the area and might pop along. Cheers

    Hi Nigel,

Can't remember March dates off the top of my head! Hoping to have all dates confirmed by 5th December, the TT was being proof read on Wednesday. There was a couple of Sunday services planned but which dates exact I don't want to promise incase I get it wrong.

You're in luck. 2x Return trips to Ipstones! No idea of motive power as of yet though.

Thanks for that. Definitely something to do on the Sunday. The bride's brother is a bit of an enthusiast, and I'm slowly turning the groom into a crank, so there might be a few of us turning up all being well :)

It's 50 Years since passenger services were withdrawn between Leek & Uttoxeter, which meant the complete removal of passenger services for the Churnet Valley Line was completed as recommended in Dr Beeching's report.

Thanks to the Burgess family though, we can still relive this final day through the following footage. The final clip shows BR Standard 4 4-6-0 no. 75035 running round at Leek after arriving with the final train, before departing to Stoke with the ECS bringing to a close 116 years of public service to Leek and the Churnet Valley.

Hi, I have footplate ride for this, Sunday, on the 12.35 service. I was wondering what is hauling the 12.35. Hoping it's the N7 o_O

Hi, things have changed since I left the shed at 3.30pm yesterday.

TKh winter maintenance has been finished, and so she is to undergo some steam tests around the yard. If successful, she will then be rostered for this weekend's service to save steaming up a second loco. If further issues are found, the N7 is on standby to takeover. Either way you'll have a good trip, the TKh is an acquired taste at first but once sampled you wont regret it. I was due to be your Fireman but now you'll have the company of Luke as I've got a number of night shifts in work.

Depends on the load - might manage a couple of coaches but for a normal service will need a push

Yes as there is a Dining Train included for Sunday, meaning it is above her limit for the Cauldon Branch.
Don't worry though, 2944 will still do her fair share of the work.

What's the gradients like from, Froghall to Leekbrook ? As I don't have a profile for that section. Regards, Liam

    N7 Farewell on the Churnet Valley - 11th & 12th April 2015

As many people will be aware, April sees the Churnet Valley's long term guest N7 No.69621 reach the end of its current boiler certificate. Once this has expired, the locomotive will be withdrawn from service prior to a return to its home-base at the East Anglia Railway Museum.

With this in mind, the CVR will be operating the N7 for one last time on the weekend of 11th & 12th April, which is coincidentally the railway's Sci-Fi weekend. Services will be running to the 2-train Yellow timetable with the N7 operating on the T1 diagram on both days, which sees the locomtive operate five return trips along the CVR only with its first train departing from Cheddleton at 10.32am.

These trains will be the locomotives final public services, so if you want t see the N7 in steam for one last time make sure you find your way to the Churnet Valley for this event.

    News Article: http://www.churnet-valley-railway.co.uk/news/69621farewell

The N7 is due to to be withdrawn Midnight 18th April after a days operating a Private Photographic Charter.

A note for the Diesel fans: 33102 will be the second train operating the Yellow Timetable over the 11th & 12th.

On a different subject, what is the state of play with 6046 and what exactly was the damage done whilst she was at Nene Valley?

The root cause was deemed to be repeated priming which resulted in the left piston smashing the cylinder and front cover to bits.

The owner has managed to acquire a cylinder block that is in need of refurbishment.

The loco is currently stripped awaiting removal of the boiler once the loco arrives at the contractor that will fit the new cylinders.
