For anyone interested, here's a photo of the Growler, heading north through East Lothian on Saturday.

Thanks for the excellent photo, we were on the train. Great day out, 15 minute late departure from Bolton (our boarding point) extended to 20 minutes at various points, but was pulled back to an on time arrival at Edinburgh. The Perth circle ran more or less to time, the coastal bit to Kirkcaldy is always impressive. The return from Edinburgh was curious in that we had to "loose" over an hour before York. We were told this was because we would otherwise catch 60163 up, which left two and a half hours before us! Strange considering our Class 37's were 80mph restricted (60163 is passed for 75mph I think, and was booked for less than an hour water stop). This was solved by us having two extended stops in loops allowing sevice trains to blast past. These must have overtaken 60163, why couldn't we? 60163 was still in the station at York when we arrived having just detached from its stock.
37676 + 37706 performed magnificently, the sound at various points wonderful, particularly the climb to Standedge and into the tunnel. Only fly in the ointment, the stock had no water for the toilets in our coach, and others ran out during the day, as did the buffet car for hot drinks. The WCRC man had to coax the heating van into action, achieved by Manchester, with lots of steamy windows by this time.
Thanks to Jo and her family, and team of helpers from Spitfire, great day out, well organised. Harold.
