    Can't see a thread for today's run - thought I'd start one.

Hope to catch both legs of the journey today in the lovely Kentish sunshine

Saw it go through Shortlands in glorious Winter sunshine. It was held on the Catford Loop to allow a Southeastern service ahead of it on the fast line. Hope to see it come back through Petts Wood tonight.

    Regards,

    Dan

The diesel would have been there for Grosvenor Bank and Bearsted Bank, 1 in 80 from a standing start at Maidstone East. Shame I couldn't get down there weather looks perfect.

That speed and a possible dead load of 14/15 doesn't quite match but I agree that it's a nice clip and a noisy Bullied.

Presumably the bad wheel flats on the 47 don't constitute a failure during its FTR exam?

Stormed through Ashford. Looked well patronised. The 47 making a dreadful racket - not working, just the square wheels

Wrong routed at Petts Wood Jn to Hawkhurst Jn. On the chord to Bickley Jn and permitted to go no further. Required to set back to Orpington to go booked route on the slow line. Who knows when a path will be available for the wrong direction move at this time of day!

    At Dunton Green this afternoon

Looked very impressive and really sounded impressive, in that it didn't sound like it was making heavy going - running like a sewing machine!

If they did northern would have about 3 DMU's to run their entire service. Every one has square wheels at this time of the year.

How does a 'wrong routing' happen - one would hope that with all todays systems it was almost impossible.

Difficult to tell Al, but maybe the 47 just taking its own weight? Maybe we should have been on this one as well as Tornado but at least we knew for sure that was pure steam with 510 tons.

Signaller not reading his notes, assumes train is going a certain way so sets route up accordingly, first thing the driver knows is when he sees the feather or whatever on the approach to the junction. If he's anywhere near line speed for the direction he was supposed to be going then in all probability cannot stop before the junction. It's happened a couple of times this year on diesel charters that I've been on. Having a diesel on the back does make setting back fairly easy, without one, who knows??
