I've been using my Canon EOS 6D for around four years now. To say I'm pleased with it would be an understatement. Whilst I was scrolling through the menu today (looking for something else) I realised that I've never installed any firmware updates to this DSLR. Everything works to my satisfaction and wandering around the net, there are some horror stories about good cams going bad after firmware updates. If it's not broken, why fix it comes to mind...but I'd welcome comments from those of you who are well into the techno side of the machines, especially if you are a Canon user. The updating process, from what I can see, is fairly simple, so there are no issues there. Should I or not? Help!

....leave it. I've had my Canon for 9 years now and the only thing I've done to it is buy a couple of new lenses.

Simple enough to do -- when I used Canon I used to keep mine ( 5D Mk 2) up to date.

But - a quick look at the Canon web will tell you what the version corrects and if it doesn't affect you then there should be no harm in leaving it alone.

As a matter of interest Scott, have you ever had any firmware update notifications for your D800? I've only had one and that was two years ago.

After I posted that comment I did look as I've had the D800 three years this month and never updated it, and I haven't received any notifications that I can remember but then Firmware versions haven't been a priority over the last few years.
My Firmware is obviously out of date at A 1.01 and B 1.02 when Nikon suggests both should be 1.10 but I can't se anything in the 1.10 enhancements that affects me.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll leave the camera as it is!
