Good evening, I was having a clear-out and have found an old oval brass loco worksplate, mounted on a hardwood base and marked:-

    NEILSON & Co.
    4571
    GLASGOW 1892

My grandfather had it mounted on the wall of his shed C1960, I have no idea where he obtained it or anything about it, any ideas from you experts?

    Kind regards, Tony

Neilson & Co, works no. 4571 was Gas Light & Coke Co., Beckton By-Products Works, No.3.
It was transfered to Beckton Gas Works in 1966 and scrapped c1968.
This loco which was very similar to their No.1, which still exists, was a 0-4-0T with outside cylinders.

Hi William, thanks for the info.
My Grandfather was a chemist at the Beckton Gas Works and he retired in the mid 60's.
Your info maybe would explain how he came by the plate!

    Thanks again, Tony
