Can anyone point me in the direction of some good quality images of Billingtons K Class mogul as research for a large scale model (5" gauge). It would be great to see some close up detail images. Thank you.

You probably already know that, after he retired, Billington made his own high-quality miniature model K in 9 1/2ins gauge. In recent years this was offered for sale by a specialist in Lincolnshire.
Can't see it on the archive on their ( slightly clunky ) website, but I am sure that they can provide you with some shots if you ask them nicely:

Thank you Keith, that is the one. With all the discussions on here about the merits of different C.M.E.s, how many others could have produced such a piece of work from their own hands?

Don't forget they'd all (or nearly all) have gone through a basic engineering apprenticeship in the factory before they went on to design work. I don't doubt that pretty much all of them could take a piece of metal and shape it adequately accurately with machine tools. But that's not to take away anything from Billington's wonderful model. Its one thing to have the skills needed to theoretically tackle a task, it may be another to set to and finish it!

Darroch (LNWR). See our SLS Orion page. Over 100 years old and steamed from time to time at Locomotion. Next scheduled outing is at their September steam gala.

Hope this plug for the SLS and NRM Shildon acceptable to the mods.

More relevant to the OP is there may be some in the SLS photographic collection but as I'm not an expert on the lists of what loco/shots we have you would need to contact Keith Greenwood for details. Examples are lists 2 & 42.
