Times are up for this tour, which is currently down for 60009. Given 60009 is undergoing repairs at Bury and won't be available for the rest of 2017, what else is there at Southall that could step in at a week's notice? Is 70013 at Southall? 45212 perhaps?

Steam comes off at Salisbury on the return, incidentally, and there is a light engine path from Swanage to Salisbury in the morning, so it appears the tour will be unassisted subject to conditions on the day.

70013 heads to Bristol this weekend (but might head back afterwards)

Oh of course it is, I'd forgotten it was out at the weekend. A possibility then if a support crew can be found.

On "The Works" pages Ian Riley has updated a thread about 60009, to state that 45212 will be helping out in the meantime (which of course is interesting as this loco also has scheduled outings from 2nd)

Now shown as 45212 on the RTC website. A shame for those who were hoping for No 9 but at least a replacement loco has been found.

Looks like we'll have a diesel on-board all day it seems.
This might be useful if the Black Five has problems on this 11 coach train (icy rails, etc.).

This shows what happens when you try to tackle Parkstone Bank with one Black 5 and no diesel. The loco was also a lot "warmer" having come from Weymouth rather than Swanage.

We got up behind 44932 in November 2010 with only one slip, near Branksome Station and north of the cutting that caused 44871 such grief in the clip. Our train started from Swanage and I can't imagine the railhead conditions were particularly wonderful that day as there had been snow the previous night. Looking at the clip, however, I see that 44871 had 11 on. I think we only had 10 including the support coach.

ECS arrived at Swanage 18:03 [72 mins late].
To enable 45212 and support coach to be stabled separately overnight [adjacent to power & water] the train was halted outside Swanage station, for them to be detached, before the WCRC 47 (?) could haul in the remaining stock.
45212 then shunted out of the way before the stock was propelled out of the station. This allowed 45212 (with support coach) to shunt across and take coal now - ready for the early start tomorrow.

57314 is the diesel. Must have faith in it starting after a very cold night or nothing will be going anywhere!

A few taken at Salisbury this morning from a privileged position thanks to being on duty assisting with the watering.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    The Chronicle know their audience.

A little while ago, I was waiting to photograph a steam hauled train at that farm crossing at Bathampton, 3 young mums and 7 toddlers turned up to watch it go past.

Heavily shoved up Upton S. Certainly not as impressive as 45699!
