Standing in for 60009, 46100 tears through Arlesey earlier this morning. Box on the back was lifeless as far as I could tell.

46100 'Royal Scot', seen covering for 'Duchess of Sutherland' on today's Christmas White Rose, caught at New Zealand Bridge (Sandy) and Peterborough.

Why do we have 2 threads for this and pictures posted in at least 3? Surely one's enough? ;)

She is rattling along nicely in the first shot. In the second as she comes to a halt is all that noise just the air pump, which I assume is so loud as it is at platform level on that side of her?

Been a while since I have ventured in the area, has Brumber bridge been replaced?

Will have been bracing, at least you missed the horizontal rain

When it got to York, it was grey, windy and it started to rain - but 46100 ran superbly on the trip, and credit to WCRC and RYTC for a splendid, memorable day out :)

Oh, and that 57 put in a real turn of speed on the way back - it was 15 early at Peterborough!

Thanks for all the lovely images guys, as a steward the best I got was just after the loco and support coach were released at York. Where it seemed bitterly cold, so much so I spent the afternoon in Holgate sidings!

Any views about how Royal Scot is performing compared to Guardsman?

Kylchap I guess we really need one of the timers to give a view. But from on train, (and somehow I do not think I ever got further forward than First Class for some reason) the loco seemed fine. However as it is the ECML and as you need to get out of the way a lot, there were a couple of "spectacular" accelerations that I imagine were Class 57 inspired. I guess an unassisted CME would be good way to compare the two locos.
What would have been interesting is how No 9 would have achieved the timings at the north end of the run back when a 95mph Class 57 left 10 late and was still 9 late at Doncaster and still 6 late at Retford with no delays!

Going along nicely but sadly shut off and coasting. It was the air pump indeed. The driver was working on the air brake but also had a vacuum in the system, but dumped and recreated the vacuum during the stop. Driver was Mick Valla, Fireman Chris Yates, Footplate Rep Paul Hill.
