The Appeal for the restoration of 41313 has now passed the £32,000 mark so we need just £13,000 to hit our target. Donations can be made on the IWSR’s website here:

    http://www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk/make-a-donation.aspx

However if you would like to help the appeal and receive a memorable experience in return, all proceeds from footplate rides at this weekend’s gala will be put towards the Appeal.

    Details here:

NEWS OF THE GALA - a chance to be on the footplate for 41298’s official return to service!

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is offering footplate rides for a full round trip on the Railway on all three days of our Gala Weekend on 28th, 29th and 30th May, which sees the formal return to service of Ivatt 41298. The footplate ride on 41298’s first official train, which will be at 12noon on Saturday 28th will be auctioned to the highest bidder at 1145. For the rest of the weekend, they will cost £80 for No 24 Calbourne and No 11 Newport and £120 for 41298.

All proceeds will go to the Appeal for 41298’s sister locomotive, currently under restoration at the East Somerset Railway. For further information on Footplate Experiences including details of Terms and Conditions see http://www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk/footplate-experiences.aspx Please contact Liz Tagart at LizT@iwsteamrailway.co.uk to book.

The large bracket fixed on the right hand side of the smokebox is the mounting for the steam powered air pump that is required for the IoWSR.

Does anyone have news of 41313's progress? The ESR photo gallery hasn't been updated since October...

Yes, I'll be updating the esr photo gallery later this evening hopefully.

Lots of progress to report though.

Motion is now complete. Just working on adjusting the valve timing at the moment.

Boiler is having the cladding made and trial fitting. Even the complex curves around the front of the firebox is being made from scratch.

    Check the website later.

Excellent many thanks! You're doing a fantastic job with her...

I came down for the launch of 46447 and was very impressed, I'm sure the tank version will be just as good !!

Thanks for the new photos, there's some real craftsmanship in the cladding being manufactured!

Expecting a team to arrive this weekend to start the work to fit the 12 flue tubes. Initial work is to prep. the holes at firebox and smokebox ends. The holes in the copper firebox need the screw threads recutting and the chamfer on the water side reforming. To make access a bit easier the smokebox has been removed - although all the holes for riveting it to boiler have been drilled it was only bolted on.

The team duly arrived on Friday and completed the work required on the flue holes in smokebox and firebox tubeplates over the weekend. They will now manufacture the new flue tubes and fit them in a few weeks time. Meanwhile we will finish cleaning the inside of the boiler of scale and bird nesting material before fitting the small tubes that we already have.

As you may have seen on the website the small tubes are now in the boiler. Most of these have now been expanded and some of them have been beaded in the firebox end.

The picture attached shows them part way through being expanded this morning at the sbox end.[IMG]

Following the prepping of the flue tube holes and fitting of the small tubes, excepting those around the flue holes, the smokebox was repositioned onto the boiler again today. It is being held in place by bolts in every other hole. Fixing it by riveting is expected to complete in a week or so. We expect the flues to be fitted in the first half of March. The task of filling the boiler with water for the first time since the mid-60s and chasing up any leaks will then commence prior to out of frames hydraulic and steam tests.

41313's boiler holds water for the first time since the 60's. Hydraulic and steam tests are due in the next week or so.

Totally agree, we had several of them and the tender versions at Lancaster in steam days and the crews loved 'em!
