I think you will find that once it is kitted out with all the required electronics the last thing you would want to do is to split the engine and tender unless it is absolutely necessary for maintenance purposes. The wiring between engine and tender is best left alone.

Off topic a bit but.....Surely 80104 would be ideal for this sort of operation!

I wonder if 80078 will return after its overhaul at Mangapps.

In principle a ST4 Tank would be but 31874 has a greater water capacity and is undergoing a THROUGH overhaul with all necessary materials specifications paperwork, stage inspections, etc, etc plus we have long term security. The tender also gives it a good range. Not sure how far I would want to go with a tank engine before getting worried about what's left in the tank.

    In the future maybe....

I wouldn't put money on it. There will be a lot of railways wanting to hire it - I can think of one on the coast of Norfolk for a start!

2 plugs to remove from sockets (rear TPWS aerial and GSMR power supply) in addition to the main drawbar, 2 safety links, 2 water pipes, vacuum train pipe, vacuum reservoir pipe and train heat pipe.

plus another full FTR afterwards it may be easier to just drag it down to Eastliegh with the 33, engine in light steam, turn on the triangle engine, coach and steam loco bring the formation back but this time 31874 will be facing london

I wonder what the access charge would be for a class 33 and steam loco move to Eastleigh.

Probably more than the cost of labour for splitting/ putting back together plus FTR examiner!

Speaking with a guy on the Mogul stand at Strictly Bulleid, he said due to the ongoing delays with the N boiler 31806 was now being fitted with all the mainline toys instead. Not seen this announced anywhere, so is this true or are there crossed wires?
