Howdy chaps, doing a bit for GSN and I noticed that none of the running Merchant Navy’s have one of the later fabricated pony trucks but all have the cast version. Is GSN the only Merchant with one of these still around? Had a look online and couldn’t tell on a couple of the locos

I seem to recall it is the last one, although as built, it had the cast version. Whilst I am unsure when it happened in 35011's case, it appears some of the third batch, which were originally built with the fabricated version, received the cast pony truck (35022, 27-9 have it, for example). I'd speculate that they were swapped about during the rebuilding process.

On the drawings it states that 35020-35030 were all fitted with the fabricated ones. From photos of GSN she appears to have had her pony truck swapped when she was rebuilt. Looking at photos of the various merchants at Barry it does appear 11 has the only fabricated pony truck.

I recall looking 35011 over at Williton and noting the difference in spring housing.

35006s cast pony as in service now (dont have the original file on my laptop but its the photo on the bottom)

35025s pony truck she was given when built. The other change is a fabricated dust cover instead of a cast one on the early versions.

35005 carried a blue livery for a while but no rebuilt MN carried blue in BR service.

    Yeah, but you're biased... ;)

Joking aside: if the BBLS chose to repaint 34081 from its current livery (which I really like, BTW) would Express Passenger Blue be a possibility? Anything but BR Green... :Banghead:
