I'm staying down in Winchester this coming Weekend and I might have a free morning on Saturday.

Can anyone let me know if there's a Railway open and running in that area?

Nothing running on the Mid Hants until February! Likewise Swanage very limited running this time of year, the only thing I can think of is the Hayling Seaside Railway.

ah well, you can probably wander around at Ropley without too many people in the way of your camera.

An excellent museum in a building which is architecturally outstanding.

Crikey! Two positive adjectives in one sentence - I like the 'all new' @paulhitch 2018 version! :D

His account must have been hacked ;) I didn't think Basingstoke was on the Isle of Wight anyway.

Exbury Garden and Railway are shut until 11th March.

Eastleigh Lakeside minature railway is open - http://www.steamtrain.co.uk/
About 10 minutes walk from Southampton Airport Parkway station.
Looks like a single loco service.

Milestones is well worth a visit, but the lighting is "subdued" if you want to take photos.

    Cheers, Neil

Cheeky! No different from the version of previous years. In other words endeavouring not to be an over enthusiastic gricer.

I should have added that Milestones was National Lottery funded several years ago when the Hampshire County Architects Department was of national standing. So railway enthusiasts, waxing indignant about the Leicester NRM outstation decision would do well to go to Milestones to see the benchmark for a museum to house large exhibits. It's impossible to define flair but this place has it.

Eastleigh Lakeside railway, and the unique 8 1/4” gauge railway at Brambridge garden centre are near Winchester and should be open.

    Nothing full size I’m afraid.
