My small group of spotter friends when visiting a BR works never counted a engine (that is to underline in our ABC s )unless the boiler was in place on the frames ,although the number was chalked on.

Back then I was ignorant of reality and believed in the old idea that the frames maketh the loco so having a boiler was just an add-on.

I think SRM jumped the gun before any formal agreement was in place!

One would think that there we're sufficient standards ( including new builds) without tenders for the BRSLOG to have mooted a 'group buy', but of course everyone has their own timetable and different funding arrangements. If I ever become sufficiently wealthy to be philanthropic a think I will commission a batch of BR1F tender chassis - the loco owners can then put whatever tank suits them onto that.

Err no. The BR1F chassis was specifically designed for the big tender tank (5625 gallons). The chassis for the others in the BR1 series was universal for the rest of them.

Hmmmm, I've been told that for this engine every few years now for about the last 15 years!

I've also been told that elsewhere as well!

I wish them luck with the continued restoration and I've no doubt it will steam again, but when and where is anyone's guess :)
