In the workshops at Llangollen this morning I was told that the loco needs a couple of small pipes fitting & other minor works & should be ready for an initial trial run after next weekend.

    Hi all

Just seen 80072 on a low loader on the M54 heading East. Anyone know where she is off to?

    TIA

Thanks Paul42 for replying so quick. Do you know whether she has been borrowed for the Santa season?

It will be interesting to see what happens with 80072 after the New Year. The Bluebell hasn't announced its special events for 2018, but we can take it as read that there will be something happening on probably 17th-18th March to mark the 60th anniversary of the final closure of the line under BR. The final train in 1958 was a special hauled, appropriately, by 80154, the last loco to be built at Brighton Works. In 1988 and 2008, the Bluebell had a working Standard 4 tank to perform the re-enactment (80064 in 1988 and 80151 in 2008). In 1998, with no resident working Standard Tank, 80080 was hired in from Butterley. 80151 is on the way back at the moment but is most unlikely to be ready by March. I find it hard to believe that the Bluebell will mark this anniversary without a working standard tank and the 80072 owning group seems happy for it to travel far and wide. 80078 is another possibility and the fact that it wears the early crest (unlike 80154 in 1958) obviously isn't an insurmountable problem.

I'm only guessing and for all I know I may be totally wrong and the Bluebell may decide to do something different and not bother with hiring in a standard tank next March. All will no doubt be revealed soon.

I read somewhere that 813 is a possible visitor for the Branchline event, in return for 323 visiting the valley.

Sorry to be pedantic but the final train in 1958 was not a special as such - it was the normal scheduled train albeit strengthened from one to, I think, six coaches.
