When is 60009's boiler ticket due to expire? If it's soon, I wouldn't blame Mr. Cameron for saying that it's time for an early retirement for UoSA. A cost/benefit analysis may show this to be the case.

So sad to hear this. Doesn't sound promising given the circumstances.

Somewhat rotten luck if both of Mr Cameron's engines end up being retired earlier than planned with serious faults.

On a positive note, Mr Riley and his men seem to be continuing with the cylinder repair, if all was lost why carry on throwing time and money at the loco. ?
The men at Heywood have a reputation for working miracles when it comes down to loco. engineering................keep the faith.:Morewaitingisrequired:

Thanks for that - thought it was around then and I assume that's when JC intends to retire the loco from running.

Maybe I shall have to wait a bit longer for main line haulage by 60009, but a pity it'll not be next week and on my early Christmas present to myself! Well, fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

Over on the works Ian has said we should see her out again next season...which suggests it is indeed fixable

Good news for next year then, will have to look at various calendars for a springtime trip one hopes.

One of my steam trips this year was the one to Weymouth on 23rd July, which I booked on the basis that, with only two more years of operation by this loco, there might be few or no more down south after this year.

On The Works Ian has just posted that they aim to have the loco fit for its run on 7th December.

Really?! Day after what would have been my Mum's birthday.

Now.... can I afford two daytrips to York inside a fortnight...?

But hang on... miracle worker though Mr. Riley would appear to be, I thought there was a boiler problem too?

Mr Riley has had his men on overtime and the man says they are aiming for it to be a runner on December 7th. Riley& Sons DO NOT send loco's out unless they are fit for the road. Be happy, 60009 will be back amongst us

Excellent. I'm hoping for a sprint down the ECML behind her on 20 December. Looks like 46100 for the return journey. Fingers crossed no pushing from behind!

:Hissyfit: Working that day, sadly: I would love to do a run before Christmas (and I was very impressed with 46100 yesterday) but the choice is either end up being £400 up (day's work) or £700 down (lost day + cost of ticket) :(

£400 a day? Do you sell cattle prods to totalitarian regimes or something?

No, but I can build you one... ;)

In my line of work that's cheap. By contrast, a lead food stylist on an advertising campaign can earn half as much again (source: my mate's partner, who is indeed a food stylist).

Tell that to the legion of workers for whom £400 a day is but a pipe dream.
