@Shaggy - Jesus! Have you shot that in 4K/UHD? I mean, is it big enough?!

ETA - looked at what you shot in on. I've just answered my own question.

  3. Deltics were habitually shut down on arrival at KX because of (a) the racket they made (b) the fumes and (c) to prevent the vibration from shaking years of dried pigeon sh1t from the roof and it falling onto the unsuspecting punters :)

To this day HSTs are shut down on arrival at KX for the same reasons. With the possible exception of (c).

I don't know why, but a free path is not something to be turned down. (if that is what it was),,,,,,,,,,,,,and it looked 'handsome'

She appeared at the Knottingley Open Day so looks like she earned her keep on the journey home.

Was the 66 doing much or, as stated, just there as a slightly unwieldy form of coupling?

That's what I've been wondering all along. I well understood the reasons for RSG's freight turns - something powerful but light weight - but this seems... odd.

Not really that odd. 9009 had to get home from the Open Day and instead of finding a light engine path, looks like they've stuck it on the front of the 66 instead.

Ah, the 'free path' option seems most likely. Thanks for the information.

\Perhaps the freight cars are buckeye, the Deltic is hook coupling, the 66 has both??

Well, it was stated that the 66 acted as a 'translator' vehicle...

That much was clear, I was just wondering whether it did much or if they let the Deltic have at it unassisted.
