In those conditions its possible to get almost as wet on some of the full cab engines particularly when traversing the embankment near Woodyhyde camp site. I'm told its nothing in comparison to what they used to endure going over Meldon viaduct tho.

Having an open cab on the nice days far outways the occasional wet day. The prevailing South westerlies mostly blow in the Fireman's side on the vulnerable engines so not sure what the Swanage Drivers have to complain about Steve. ;)

Not sure whether this should be posted under this thread or the steam loco section, but anyway, here goes.

Latest update from Southern Locomotives Ltd mentions its new agreement with the Swanage Railway. Looks like all five Bulleids and 80104 will be regular sights at Swanage for the foreseeable future although visits to other lines are mentioned. 257 Squadron is still expected to re-enter service later this year and 34053 will leave the SVR for Swanage at the start of 2018.

I've just read the Steam Railway article about the T9 and it makes interesting reading.

Loan with Bodmin has been terminated by the NRM, and it has been placed on loan to Swanage until at least end of the year whilst it is assessed.

NRM are keen for it to return to operational condition if at all possible, which is good news.

Also interesting to read about the T3 being offered undercover accommodation at Barrow Hill, and plans for a 20 coach carriage shed.

41312 seen on Corfe webcam at 1240 behind D6515. As the 33 is across the park from me in Swanage now assume the Ivatt is on shed.

So the NRM terminated the loan, by Assessed i read that to mean future decided, so has it failed? and because of what? Swanage can not offer any covered acomodationn , As regards the T3, couldnt the Bluebell have offered to look after it for the Swanage Railway?

The Bluebell hasn't got enough covered accommodation for it's own locos let alone any more!

Ivatt was facing out of Swanage. Still it should fit the turntable so it may not stay that way. Should be going down the town later I will see if it is still facing the same way.

Currently stabled on Goods Shed Road facing Wareham. As you say though, it does fit the turntable.

Swanage haven't accepted the barrow hill offer, and they don't necessarily want it to go elsewhere. It depends what their plans are for it.

If you are able to let me (or the forum in general) know whether it is planned to turn it, I'd be most grateful. I am wondering about coming over this Saturday to enjoy a ride behind the Ivatt and then take a picture or two. However, if the only photo options consist of 41312 with the Devon Belle observation car immediately behind the engine, I'm not too sure I really fancy a round trip of 260 miles for this. Turning it would certainly solve the problem!

    Thanks anyway.

Car 14 is off the train at the moment, so you’ll be unlikely to end up with that shot; I don’t believe from conversations today that it is now planned to use 41312 this weekend though as there are a few jobs to pick up, although I may of course be wrong.

In terms of turning, I have nothing rostered at Swanage until the end of November so there will be others who are in a better position to advise if it is planned to turn it, or indeed when this may have been done.

Thank you, Nick. Your helpful update is most appreciated. If 41312 may not be in use this weekend, I presume this is more than just a short visit, in which case hopefully there may be a chance to see it at a later date. Anyway, I'll watch this space!

Oh, had specifically arranged my life around visiting Swanrail on Saturday to ride behind the Ivatt.

With 41312, the Standard, the U and possibly the Squadron, a mini gala could have hastily been arranged.

To think in the old days, to have two industrials working on the same day with the 08 was a gala!

I will reiterate that I may be wrong (its not unusual!) regarding 41312, was just an impression I got when I called in there today. Best speak to the railway itself for a definitive answer as to what is actually going to be in traffic.

daddsie whilst the U was in use up to Tuesday and the Standard tank yesterday and today, 257 Squadron has some boiler issues according to the SLL website and has not moved since arriving from the works. It has not even been coaled yet since it arrival back at Swanage. I heard a totally unsubstantiated (and I hope totally incorrect) rumour earlier in the week that the boiler may have to come off again.

I think the railway is correct to cancel the gala but maybe a two train service could have been a compromise to get people down as two locos were in use over the weekend and Monday, (diners and driver experience in addition to service trains)

Of course if there is an issue with 41312 then one train service a good decision. I guess the Swanage twitter feed will reveal all today or tomorrow.
