Gotcha. Accessibility to both platforms is a plus. :)

When was the line between Dunster & Minehead reduced to a single line & why?

No Braunton for FS, then. Any thought of a replacement?

    Thanks.

We are lucky to have this image at all.

Nick Jones, the Operating Superintendent at the time, snapped this and some others and then forgot about the film roll for 25 years......

A couple of folks have offered assistance and Nick will be sending me a high res scan in the next day or two for folk to work on. If you would like a copy to work on, please PM with an e-Mail address.

I think this is an exceptionally important image in the context of understanding the work so far in the preservation era.

Good to see the two Pope brothers from West Somerset Restorations turned out on a Bank Holiday to help the volunteer S&T crew with their welding expertise. Thanks to all. Truly the One Railway spirit.

Why the clamour for another high-profile engine? Isn't Flying Scotsman a sufficiently big draw on its own?

Ha too right! For my only FS experience which occurred when she came to Brisbane and was on show with 3801, (arguably Australia's best known steam loco), I honestly only have memories of one engine that day, and the colour was apple green! And this, despite photographic evidence to the contrary, of a 12yr old me on the footplate of the other!

If the West Somerset can cover the traffic requirement from the locomotives already on the line, why spend a lot of money hiring another loco?

Where tickets were sold specifically on the basis of a second loco? I know another named loco was mentioned here but, like @Jamessquared , I suspect that the vast majority of the passengers will be there for one loco and one loco only - Flying Scotsman!

Fully agree. When FS & Tornado were both on the SVR it was clear which loco was an attraction for "normals". The other was just another one of several.

Going back to the photos of the track remodelling work.
    Did they get it right?
Was there anything else that was not considered but should have been in hindsight?
