Excellent climb of Edge Hill- to the extent that I thought there was still a diesel on the back, such was the acceleration! Bowled along between 70 and 74 on sections of the coast as far as Llandudno Junction, where the prospect of four hours in Holyhead determined I got off. 45690 made a vocal departure from the junction. Went to Conwy for a wander round before using RTC's tickets to Llandudno.

Do I feel sorry that I'm not doing the whole route? No! I've had an excellent day out as a result of bailing out at the junction; there's a couple of decent hostelries in Conwy, wandered around the castle for the first time in 21 years, and there is still time for a lemonade at another Llandudno establishment. A good trip to do for things to do.

A really good day out behind 45690. Despite the weather on the return, the climb up to Earlestown was dismissed with ease. The locomotive looked great at the stops in Lime Street, and its performance throughout the day is clearly indicative that it's a strong 'un.
