An update on loco availability for Saturday 1st July gleaned from Facebook posts:

D7017 will work the 1020 BL - MD. Whether it continues on diagram will depend on a vacuum fault being fixed on 7820.

D1661 will work 1105 BL - MD and 1530 MD - BL as booked.

D6575 will work Diesel Engineman course as booked.

It's not clear what will work the 1010 MD diagram - 44422 is awaiting the fixing of a broken spring, but both 7Fs are available.

6960 is currently stopped for a washout and new piston rings.

Cider can be fine but the best thing on a hot day is an ice cold carafe of Provencal rose. Ideally consumed in the shade of a plane tree bearing a notice threatening people wearing baseball caps with being ejected!

When I left at 1700 today, the Manor had not been fixed, and the plans are 53809 will start on the 1020 BL - MD, 53808 on the 1010 MD - BL, DMU OK for the diesel service, a diesel (probably D6575) will work the down QB and hopefully the Manor will be fixed for the return QB.

Broken lawnmower or not yesterday was a perfect day on the WSR with sun, breeze and the sounds of the Maybach contrasting with that of steam.

Thanks Ian, you were quite right. Today 53808 on MD, 53809 on BL.
Lets hope 6960, 44422 and 7820 back in service soon. Very rare to have 3 locos in trouble all at the same time.

Surely such a threat is discrimination against a minority who wear them and contrary to H&S by banning protection against the sun?

Well the tables were under two lines of plane trees plus a red canvas awning. It was Aix en Provence which "wouldn't have the Queen as Aunty"! Despite this the staff were amiable and their carafe pink educational. Not expensive either.
