I'd go so far as to say that most inside admission Walschaerts locos have valve spindle guides, but hardly any of those have hanger suspension of the combination lever. I think the hanger was probably necessitated by the centreline of the steam chest being off inboard from anywhere you could reasonably get the gear in - the combination lever drives the outer arm and the valve is driven off the inner arm. It wouldn't be possible to move the hanger any further back to make room for an additional spindle guide because then it would clout the slidebar bracket. For the most part Bulleids don't seem to give an undue amount of gland trouble compared to a lot of slide valve engines running at lower pressure - I'm sure WCRC will get 35018 fettled in due course.

Huh? Why would I comment on a clip from possibly 20 years ago?

That sounds like the sort of punishment I could be quite keen on - the official Beer of my business (a night with a mate drinking that in Suffolk was when I decided to set up my own business - no-one thought I would remember the next morning but I did!)

Anyone who is keen on GK IPA has no sense of taste IMO. I'd rather drink bat's wee through a sweaty sock than let that stuff past my lips.

I'm greatly amused by the number of folk on social media who are adamant that it was Bodmin out on test yesterday, simply because of the nameplates being carried...

Lots of precedents for the identity of a loco being defined by the number it carries though - "Coronation", "Royal Scot" etc . ;)

Where the work on anything gets done is a matter for the person who signs the cheque for the job on completion, you can ramble on having repeated digs at WC until you're blue in the face, you're not going to change anything.Whatever the thing is between you and WC.......let it go, it's consuming you. Welcome the thing and have the bottle to say "well done WC" and leave it at that.

If you read the post you quoted you will note it says "very well done indeed" .
Just not a fan of hyperbole, thats all. Reading some of the posts one would think some sort of miracle had been performed rather than simply the conclusion of a long term business project, similar of which has been accomplished by a number of volunteer based groups within infinitely poorer resource conditions. Thats the perspective I was referring to, no beef with WC, but thanks for the psychoanalysis.
