Only to be caught out at Barrow, if my information is correct and at least one signal box was out then there was never any chance of running to time.

I'm not in full possession of the facts obviously. But on the face of it reading RTT doesn't the decision to hold her behind the 1720 Windermere at Barrow look extremely conservative?

Is it not possible to turn left at Park Junction on a Saturday?

On time by Willesden so 40 mins slack in the Carnforth-- Euston schedule.

Some fabulous pictures from Messrs Thompson, Boreham and co.

If it's the same as the CCE in January then it's because the Park South Box is closed (no flask trains use the avoider on a Saturday) and so everything goes through Barrow as we did.

Although, thanks again to WCRC who managed to recover all lost time by London, the decision to stop the charter at Barrow makes little sense. It would have been through Barrow a good ten minutes before the 1720 to Windermere was due to leave. And then, somehow, the following service from Carlisle was allowed to get around the charter to park up in Barrow before it went through.

Perhaps someone on board knows what actually was happening and why.

As someone on the train, we passed Park South at 16:58 and arrived into Barrow Platform 2 at 17:08

The 17:20 185 unit was in platform 1 and seemingly the bobby had pulled off for him just as we/just after we arrived

We then departed the station at 17:24 using the limit of station shunt to the next signal where we were held until 17:40

This move allowed the Class 37 on the northern service to terminate as booked at Barrow with us out of the way

Eventually passing Dalton Junction at 17:50

Some slick work at Carnforth allowed the loco change to be done in 26 minutes

Thus once the Carlisle to Preston unit had passed we were allowed out before the Grangemouth to Daventry freight, but then had to follow the unit slowly into Preston as we weren't quite close enough at Lancaster to allow it to be held slightly

Crewe was 22 late but then almost virtually consistent 90mph running on the fasts along with some pathing allowances allowed us an on time arrival back into Euston

A very enjoyable trip with superb weather and some nice noise from thre Scot

Time was lost on the Cumbrian Coast well before Barrow and the signaller decision to allow the 1720 unit in front of us

One box being out didn't make a difference as I believe iits usually shut on a Saturday

    Carlisle 3 late
    Maryport 5 late
    Workington 5 late
Whitehaven, arr 5 late, dep 7 late
Sellafield water stop arr 6 late, dep 9 late
    Bootle 13 late
    Askam 14 late
    Park south 12 late

The RTT entry for departure from Barrow was once we departed the limit of shunt signal, not the platform and is a manual entry by the bobby as opposed to automatic

I very much enjoyed the trip despite the hold ups. We made our connection despite being 20 late at Crewe. Thanks to @charterboy and others for the explanations. Information was hard to come by in our coach. :)

If it isn't one sort of box being grumbled about then it's another ..... :)
