Had to put a black and white filter on that to even it up a bit, 34081's paint job brightens up even the murkiest day. Nothing against my favourite Bulleid though, 34053's a cracking bit of stuff.

A man of impeccable taste. She'll look even better once we've fitted the nameplates and Squadron badges.

Had an enjoyable (if a bit cold and windy) day at the railway today. First time I have travelled on it in over a decade, back then I remember 34081 steaming along with a big blue continental locomotive - could well have been the Swedish no.101 that is on prominent display at Wansford. Anyway, '81 looks as good as I remember it being, looking forward to seeing it again in a few weeks on the SVR.

May 6th is the big day. If all goes according to plan she will be named by the current OC 92 Squadron RAF and we will have a Spitfire display by one of our own members who flies for the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar and a fly past from the BBMF who are painting one of their Spitfires in 92 Squadron markings. Just praying for good weather so the flying can go ahead.

I see 34081 as the GT version - complete with go faster stripes :) - and 34053 as the less racy family saloon. :D

This was my initial view of '81 on Sunday afternoon ;) (Only had phone camera available, so didn't bother trying really...)

Edit: Even had a brief chat to Spamcan81 in person - he was positively cheery, unlike the grumpy persona he seems to maintain on here...perhaps because his pride and joy was looking and sounding good as she trundled past! :)

Just to set the record absolutely straight on this one, there was no problem with the injector on the loco, the issue was with the water tower. I wouldn't want the guys who overhauled the injectors and made them work impeccably to carry any blame.

Didn't SKP have a water issue on the WSR gala?

Was only repeating what Kingsley told me - i.e. the injector kicked out due to low water. Mind you, we all know Kingsley's been losing the plot for years. No doubt due to having to drink his own tea in the mess hut. :)

Well technically that's correct - the injector did kick out but only because the water level was low, not because there was a fault with the injector. It's a subtle difference but then I'm not sure Kingsley does subtle - he does seem to have cheered up since chips appeared on the menu mind you

He most certainly does not. :) He can't stop talking about the chips so I hope he's put his money where his mouth is and purchased some. Following on from the success of the Bulleid 50, it would be nice to get another flat top for a future gala.
