Plenty for a 75MPH rated Class 8 I'd have thought, I'm sure I read in the past the NRM woulden't totally rule out Air Braking either which would make it even more useful.

Talking about the amount of cash, I would imagine if they were to start an overhaul it would be so she's operational when 6233's ticket has expired. Bear in mind 6233 is the only operational Stanier Pacific out and about ATM

To all you gentlemen discussing the return to steam of 6229 Duchess of Hamilton. Let me assure you that there is no intention in the foreseeable future of this locomotive being put back into working order. Nowhere does it say, either, that any promises were made to the contrary.

Wasn't there talk back in the Steve Davies days of launching a full 6229 train - that being when the time comes to restore her it would also be looked at creating a full train to run with her? Seeing her at the head of a rake of Mk1s is never going to be the most pleasing!

I believe there was. Mk2's that would be painted to match the loco I think was part of it.

I'd love to see 6229 in steam in streamlined condition but can't see it happening for a while longer though.

Thank you for that Mr Carrington, it seems that the rumour was supposed to have come from Facebook and taken as fact, despite previous statements from the NRM as your comment above.

If Percival Carrington isn't a pseudonym I'll be greatly surprised.

NRM...Flying Scotsman. NRM....Duchess of Hamilton. A case here possibly of once bitten, twice shy.

perhaps, but some people had/have far more unlikely names than Pervical Carrington. The next CME of the Caledonian Railway after Dugald Drummond was called Hugh Smellie (Can you imagine it - "The guest engine at such-and-such a gala will be a Smellie 0-6-0!). Jubilee No. 45651 was named after a gentleman called Sir Cloudesley Shovell. A colleague of mine once told me he had sold a ticket for some event of other to a man whose surname was Netherwoppy.

    Sorry, thread drift!

Percival Carrington is a perfectly plausible name, for a character played by Leslie Philips.
and I think I might change my name to Sir Cloudesley Shovel - superb

So rumour not confirmed, but not denied either ( isnt that a code for 'negotiations still at a tentative stage' perhaps ? ) but Hey, its been fun.

I believe he pronounced it 'Smeelie'. Can't imagine why.

    It's Pecival, apparently, not Percival.
