I was hopeing for a big train last thing in the evening like when 5820 took a ten coach train two or three years ago which was great entertainment, perhaps at a future gala it will be possible again. One of the great things about a WVR gala is seeing how many trains you can handle with just a run round loop and a siding at Keighley, its must take some careful planning.

A little surprised that 45212 is not going to feature.

Posts on The Works forum indicate it's not run in yet

Have the guests actually arrived yet, what with all the problems of the last couple of years.

I do hope this gala all goes to plan, the KWVR has had a lot to deal with recently with the bridge ban & the flooding.

This mornings BBC Bradford weather shows the only rain over the 3 days is very early Friday. So although Oxenhope can be a bit differant, Keighley might not be too bad after all.

Thursday 6th October 2016 and preparations were well under way for this weekend's Autumn Steam Gala with LNWR Coal Tank No.1054 and Hudswell Clarke No.1704 'Nunlow' shunting stock plus LMS 5MT No.45212 on light engine test runs between Oakworth and Oxenhope in preparation for the weekend.

I am hearing that today 34053 took 66 minutes to get to Oxenhope. As a result it is intended to pilot it with 43924 today and tomorrow.
45212 is replacing 43924 on it's diagram today and is doing 90733's diagram tomorrow, Saturday, and is in for 75078 on Sunday.

Don't take this as gospel merely what I have been texted from two sources. I would keep an eye on developments, one thing is for certain, the KWVR have a lot of locos at this gala!

Does a Gala timetable allow for the "downhill" loco to bank an outgoing service out of Keighley? (Said with 34053 in mind....)

    A very good question.
When I asked Sam McDougall this same question some years ago he said their operating rules didn't allow banking but since then the diesels have been pushing the santa trains in no uncertain manner so I think this may have changed.
    Hopefully someone can tell us.

I have seen the Jinty get a punt out of the station by 41241 but that was on the breakdown train. Certainly a shove over the notorious points at the station approach would prevent a stall during autumnal damp and adhesion problems.
I am told the BBs sanders don't work, so of course it's in trouble. If it doesn't have working sanders the problems today were foreseeable especially on the first train out of Keighley. Still a great spectacle no doubt and I look forward to seeing the videos.

Strange how 34092 had no problems climbing the hill alone. It's probably best to treat a visiting engine with kid gloves, though. Heading over tomorrow to fly the flag as an SLL shareholder.

Saturday... 45212 runs vice 90733 (No 4F, whoever gave you that info didn't talk to me!). Attaches to the GDS and pilots the 0950 ex KEI.

We're not allowed to propel passengers according to the rule book (includes banking). Dispensation for a diesel loco on a full corridor set (such as Santa trains) as buckeys don't snatch like a shackle and also when the steam loco applies the brake the type 1,2 or 3 automatically shunts off power.

What does 45212 run instead of on Sunday Kieran ?

    43924 or 45212

Will 34053 have a helper at all times now ?

    Cheers
