UPDATE - Cumbrian Ranger with No: 4464 "Bittern" - 15th March.

We were showing sold out with this one, but have added a third TSO so we have another 64 Standard seats....well we have just 40 seats left as I just went through the waiting list.

The current plan is for 47773 to pilot Bittern from Crewe to Tyseley. How long the A4 stays with us at Tyseley I do not know.

Just read in Railway Mag that A4s are presently out of gauge at Carlisle. Number 9 was banned in Feb from all platforms and applies to classmates as well. Anyone confirm or rebut?

I have had this confirmed, but it appears that it's not quite straight forward as you would think a Castle would also fall foul if an A4 does, but no mention of that?o_O

Howd you figure that Ralph ?, last I looked a Collett/Hawksworth tender had 6 wheels, in terms of axleload, wheelbase, even frame design, it isn't that different from an LMS type ?.

It seems the ban is not connected with the tender as first thought but the actual platform clearances...

That's makes more sense, if we are getting to the stage where an A4 is out of gauge in the conventional sense then, it might be an idea if Trans Pennine ask if they can add a few orders onto the new S7 tube sets, given that appears to be the loading gauge NR is going for.

So where does that leave this tour I wonder, presumably means a rematch between 5043 and Beattock is off the menu anytime soon, though I suspect the bigger implication is no way of accessing Scotland to Gresley Tendered loco's other than Newcastle/Berwick.

Access can be made on the through roads at Carlisle?

What it does put in question, is the big contender this year...The Scottish Lowlander...

Don't they become the platform road at the extreme north end rather than joining afterwards ?.
