After weeks of tidying up and remedial works the main platform is being rebuilt at Oswestry, currently the brick facing is in progress. There is a lot going on at the moment. See the blog for updates
    http://cambrianrailways.com/blog/

and Dan's pages for some more photos.

These are in addiotion to the main web sites but offer more detailed news about progress.

I assume that someone has noticed that the trial panel had the snap headers every 5th row, whearas the permanent works seems only to have them every 6th (?) course?.

I would hate it for you to have to take it down and rebuild it consistent with the approved panel.

A header is the view end on of a brick. When laying a double skin wall these headers lock the two walls together. A stretcher is the side on,normal view, of a brick. In this case the wall is single skin so is for appearance only.

the real tragedy when you look at the picture is what has been lost , The other (down ?) platform buildings , Footbridge , canopies , Signaling , through road

When you think how long the Oswestry scheme has been around and finally the shoots of growth are emerging to make a fully fledged railway . The sad thing in a way is the preservation boat has been missed in terms of Barry and appropriate stock . Will Foxcote maybe return ?

I know what you mean there. It could have been one of the most amazing heritage railways in the uk with the size of Oswestry station/engine shed/works but due to a no. of incidents over the years it doesnt seem to have progressed much. its quite local to me and i would love for things to progress. I understand that the two groups are now working together (maybe this is one of the reasons things havent progressed. Im only quoting from what i have read in magazines about them faling out). I keep looking at osrail and cambrian railways blog to see the updates.

Maybe when things progress Cogan hall may return from the llangollen? you never know who may win the lottery and buy up a loco. haha

There are still major obstacles to overcome.

I'm told that the old bridge near the gasworks site has some propping underneath it that would preclude the passage of trains, so trains from Oswestry will not be able to get towards Llynclys etc.

The bridge at the South will need strengthening to allow the current temporary supports to be removed. This is part of the overall plan, first objective is to operate trains to the bridge to demonstrate that real progress is being made.

The major obstacles are credibility and money, both of these are being worked on. The two main groups are working to a common agenda. The money is needed to make further progress but as seen by progress on the platform things are starting to move.
