Major buggering about at Bolton (becomes bus station for the day) hence no pick up there or return via Darwen (again!). Now faced with choice of driving to Man Vic, Wigan or Preston. A bit of a dog's breakfast of a northbound path with a couple of loops - hey ho, not a good start to the year.

More to the point, I don't see why the train is booked nearly two hours from Carnforth to Carlisle to include sitting at Grayrigg for half an hour.

It arrives in the loop about an hour earlier than the standard CME path. What is the problem with it being released at 10.25 after the TPE to arrive in Carlisle at 1140 ahead of the Virgin Glasgow service? One can only assume that the loco that is planned will not be a 75 mph loco and that suggests that it might be the 8F or two Black 5s. But even at 60, the latter would have no problem with a 75 minute schedule. I suggest that all bets are off for which loco this will be.

Isn't it that the Tesco train, Daventry to Mossend, is in that path, say 1045 through Oxenholme, and presumably it has been decreed that there are not two paths in between the TPE and the Glasgow?

Apart from more time at Preston and less at Barton DL it is virtually a cut and paste job from the same trip last year.

Yes, the northbound is the same as last year in respect to looping at Grayrigg. That was also Leander with a diesel on the back.

That makes sense. The charter is booked to leave Carnforth after the Tesco train passes. Although I don't see why it couldn't precede the Tesco train and under normal circumstances could be at Carlisle ahead of it, the problem then would be that it would be blocking P3 and the passage of the Tesco train. It does make for a bit of a trundle up the WCML but that's what you have to accept on a busy network, I guess.

The traditional supplier for this train currently has three black fives and two pacifics on hand.

I don't think the 8F will be used over Shap again, I understand that NR don't approve.
In the past it has been a pair from Bury that hauled this first WCME of the season, but it seems as if it's going to be different this year.

If it's going to be Leander I have heard in the past that the support crew and loco owner do not favour marathon days and this upcoming trip would indeed be a marathon if the loco were to be running from Manchester to Manchester. It's not as if the loco is based at the ELR where at least it would be returning home. So a Hellifield end-point doesn't surprise me one bit.

    And here's your proof:

Perfectly reasonable and sensibly planned from the outset in all probability.
Any reason then why it wouldn't form part of the associated description in the marketing blurb?

Tedious of me to harp on about careless sales practice I know, sorry.
