A marvellous effort by all concerned and certainly helps with the peak season timetable. I like a lot of other enthusiasts were not expecting to see such a rapid return to service. Well done!

Note, the fund raising for the match funding has started.

Have to say I'm a bit confused by this - I thought it was a stage 1 pass so still some hoops and about another years worth of documents to go through, although its a strong indication that the money will be forthcoming.

Today's HLF press release treats the grant as a done deal, so it looks as though for whatever reason the stage 2 procedure took a lot less time than expected. Perhaps it was the rapid fundraising which followed the attack on the teak set which swung it.

I'm not convinced. Andrew Scott's article in Moors Line refers to a stage 1 pass with a target of end of 2018 to achieve the stage 2 approval. AFAIK this includes details such as getting planning permission for various parts of the project as well as any other statutory approvals needed (e.g. from the Environment Agency for the reconstruction of the bridges at Goathland) and I would be surprised if these have been done, but I don't want to pour cold water on what is a marvellous announcement - just caution that there's a way to go yet before we see it start to come to fruition.

The surprisingly robust nature of the HLF's announcement might help to chivvy the other agencies along though.

I see the B1 and 76079 are still running daily- seems a lot of consecutive days they've put in now?

It has been the same four since the start of the season till last week when Repton came back in. Very few failures that have required diesel substitution. It has been a remarkable effort and I'd expect all four to have run 12,000+ miles by the end of the year. The B1 is showing signs of needing attention, I'm told, and I think 80136 is as well, but I believe that 76079 is still in reasonably good shape as is44806 (despite being due for withdrawal after the Xmas/New year running.). Just goes to show that those who were opposed to buying 76079 on the grounds that it is too small for the NYMR's loads were wrong, and gives lie to the suggestion that the NYMR overworks its engines.

You need to take a look in the Atkins building (adjacent to the car park in Pickering) whilst you are there. if anyone is working you are always welcome to have a look around and see work being done by the LNERCA on the ECS coach. I'm sure that 61624 can give far more info on this. If you are wanting to sample the LNER's finest, the teaks are usually on the 11.00 ex Pickering.

Had a short trip up to Whitby last week and had a trip on the NYMR Whitby-Grosmont-Whitby.

76079 seemed on excellent form, we had a great run to Grosmont with it.

Had a chat with the loco crew on 76079 and Repton- which by the way looks great, they also said that the B1 was due a bit of fettling.

Thanks very much, I shall certainly endeavour to do the former, especially as a C+W worker always interested to see how other folks live! As for the teaks, would love to sample them, will have to see if it fits the tight schedule!

Indeed as It's the LNERCAs' August Coach week I'll be there most of the week too. And usually acting as guide.

Sadly not quite - with the rest of the family in tow I think I've done quite well to get a full trip of the line, the walk between goathland and grosmont and a bit of a stop at grosmont out of them. Starting at Pickering so should be able to potter round there a bit as well.

However, Thursday's results day has confirmed I'm moving up to Sheffield in September for university, so a trip from there is much more doable!
